1/2
Polish Tatra and 1/2 Spanish Mastiff
Ranch Dog
The Polish Tatra sire is a very assertive LGD
with a heavy white coat. He can be intimidating
toward both two legged and four legged intruders,
yet uses tremendous sense of judgment discerning
what is a threat and what is not. The Tatra is
a close working breed (stays very close to the
sheep). Koci has sired over 100 working LGD's.

The working Spanish Mastiff Ranch Dog dam was imported
from a Spanish sheep farm via Mary Falk. The Spanish
Mastiff Ranch Dog differs from the purebred show dogs
pictured on the internet considerably thus we have
indicated a difference. Our stock are from actual working
LGD's, which are much lighter and more agile than the
show/pet stock although they are still a very large
dog. The Spanish Mastiff is a strong adversary toward
four legged intruders, but a very people friendly dog,
thus more suited to situations where human visitors
frequent. The Spanish Mastiff has a short hair coat
and comes in a variety of colors. The Spanish dogs
are a little bit further ranging than the Tatra but
rarely go more than 2000 feet from the flock to investigate
predator activity. If a flock owner has 0% tolerance
for a dog outside of the fence the Spanish dog may
not be the best choice. However, for those with a little
elbow room we have found the Spanish dogs to be very
effective. The Spanish Mastiff Ranch Dogs have been
the most trustworthy (i.e. gentle) around sheep of
all the breeds we have raised.
